SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA KENTUCKY-STYLE FLINTLOCK LONG RIFLE, approximately 45 caliber, figured maple full stock, octagonal to round barrel, non-original lock, single trigger, engraved brass four-part patchbox with quatrefoil fore end, inlaid German silver ovals, and ellipses, period ramrod. Probably Rockingham or Jefferson Co. Possibly Alexander McGilvray, John Crummy, William Sites, Armistead Beckman, etc. Circa 1810. 64 1/2" LOA, 48" L barrel.
Literature: See Whisker, Gunsmiths of Virginia, p. 160 for an example with an identical unusual cut-out below the patchbox fore end. While the quatrefoil finial is omnipresent throughout the Shenandoah Valley and contingent areas, no other examples of this particular cut-out are shown in either of Whisker's books.

Condition

Very good visual condition with the aforementioned replaced lock, and related restorations to stock around the lock and rear plate.
