STAFFORDSHIRE AMERICAN VIEW TRANSFER-PRINTED CERAMIC SOUP TUREEN, circular form with molded rose finial, base featuring the Capitol at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to each side, depicting a central Federal-style building with dome and two flanking structures, and two figures in foreground, and the cover having an English pastoral scene. Unmarked. Circa 1825. 11 7/8" HOA, 10 5/8" D rim.

Catalogue Note: The maker of this piece is unknown but it was known to be imported to the United States by Tams & Co., a china merchant store in Philadelphia. According to Mr. Routson, this piece is "Extremely rare and one of two known examples with cover. A third is known in a different form but is missing its lid."

Base having one handle with staple repairs to each side; cover having two chips to interior flange and a flake to underside rim; having minor light short scattered scratches from use.
