HICKERSON / STRASBURG / VIRGINIA.", SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, upside down "1 1/2" gallon capacity mark, cylindrical form with squared rim and incised shoulder ring. Brushed cobalt horizontal foliate five-leaf design repeated four times to shoulder. The pottery of James M. Hickerson (1833-1902), Strasburg, VA. 1875-1890. 10" H, 7 1/2" D rim.
