VIRGINIA CONVENTION OF 1850 PRESENTATION COIN SILVER MUG, octagonal well with applied handle to one side, the other side featuring repousse and chased decoration of scrolls and flowers, creating a frame for the presentation engraving of "A Tribute to / Saml H. Jeter. / by the / Members of the / Virginia / Convention of 1850.", rim and foot rim with molded band. Base impressed with "W.G & S", "G&S", illegible date, and "D" marks for William Gale & Son of New York City, NY (active 1850-1857; 1863-1866). Total weight: 3.765 ozt. Mid 19th century. 3 1/4" H, 3" DOA rim.
Provenance: Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections care, preservation and future acquisitions.
Catalogue Note: During the General Convention of the Assembly of Virginia in 1850, Samuel H. Jeter was appointed as second Door-Keeper on October 15 of that year, originally nominated by Nathaniel C. Claiborne.

Fair overall condition with wear, surface scratches, nicks, and dents, one edge to side of well near handle with 3/4" split from rim and possible repair, raised decoration with minor worn spots, base with residue/surface loss due to removed accession number.
