FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA RETAILED COIN SILVER CREAM LADLE WITH ORIGINAL PRESENTATION BOX, ladle by James Watts of Philadelphia, PA (active 1832-1888) and retailed by John Dickson White of Fredericksburg, VA (active 1859-1864) having an oval bowl on a shaped handle with twist stem and ornate engraved decoration featuring "E&MA" initials, presented in original retailer's presentation box featuring name and location in gilt lettering to interior lining of lid. Impressed with maker's and retailer's marks in addition to "COIN". Total weight: 0.845 ozt. Mid 19th century. Ladle 6" LOA.
Literature: Hollan - Virginia Silversmiths, p. 797, mark a (not illustrated), mentions this ladle and box in the description of the mark.
Provenance: Deaccessioned by the Valentine Museum, Richmond, VA to benefit collections care, preservation and future acquisitions.

Condition

Ladle in very good overall condition with minor wear, surface scratches, and nicks, back with residue/surface loss due to removed accession number; case with some wear, spots and areas of losses to exterior covering, and discoloration to interior lining.
