VIRGINIA PAINTED YELLOW PINE PUNCHED-TIN-PANELED FOOD / PIE SAFE, tall form, the top with applied beaded poplar molding, above two hinged cabinet doors opening to reveal two fixed shelves, set with 12 pineapple and heart design punched tins, the whole raised on tall square legs. White-painted surface scraped to reveal original blue-painted surface, interior retains white-painted surface. Probably Northern Virginia area. Second half 19th century. 55 1/2" HOA, 39 1/2" WOA, 17 1/2" DOA.

Condition

Good condition overall, feet having some damage and loss possibly from insect damage, the turnbuckle likely replaced and painted to match, metal handle added to door, several nails and screws added to ends to allow for objects to be hung on the safe. Surface with remnants of white overpaint in areas.
