BRITISH / SCOTTISH PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, wool and silk on linen, six rows of initials consisting of surnames beginning with "M" and "E", alternating with heart motifs, lower half featuring a wide band of floral vine design above a scene of Adam and Eve at the Tree of Life, all encompassed by scrolling vine border. Housed under glass in a modern frame. First half 19th century. 11" x 16 3/4" sight, 12 3/4" x 18 1/2" OA.
Fair visual condition with linen having a few scattered holes and stains, some toning, thread with several losses, frame with some wear and surface scratches, some flakes and chips to painted finish. Not examined out of frame.
