GEORGIAN AND VICTORIAN ENGLISH STERLING SILVER VINAIGRETTES, LOT OF FOUR, each rectangular form having engraved decoration to exterior and the interior with a hinged reticulated grill, comprising a larger example by John Bettridge having an 1825 date mark, an example with chamfered corners by Cocks & Bettridge with a date mark for 1808 and an old, possibly period, sponge/felt to interior, an example with a hanging loop, possibly later added, probably by Ledsam & Vale having an 1827 date mark, and the remaining Victorian example by Edward Smith with illegible date mark containing an old, possibly period, sponge. Each marked to interior with a maker's mark and four hallmarks of a lion passant for sterling fineness, an anchor city mark for Birmingham, a date mark, and a King George or Queen Victoria duty mark. Total weight including sponges: 1.040 ozt. First half/mid 19th century. Largest example 1 1/4" x 7/8" x 3/8" OA.
Provenance: From a Charlottesville, VA estate.

Condition

Good to very good overall condition with some wear and surface scratches, other imperfections including nicks, minor to moderate denting, and worn spots to engraving.
