GERMAN METTLACH DRINKING MAN CERAMIC STEIN, mold number 2282, having etched sides with polychrome hand-painted decorations featuring scene with a young man being caught sneaking a drink from a cask, ceramic inset metal lid featuring etched image of two cats around a stein and flame thumbrest, 1/2 liter size. Impressed abbey with "METTLACH / VB" and "GEGEN NACHBILDUNG / GESCHUTZ." marks to base with additional impressed numerals. Late 19th/early 20th century. 8 3/4" HOA.
