GERMAN METTLACH LARGE CERAMIC STEIN, mold number 1494, featuring etched design with polychrome hand-painted decoration depicting a man sitting on a barrel and raising a frothing stein above his head, pewter lid, thumbrest with a shield and cannon motif, 5.6L size. Impressed abbey with "METTLACH / VB" and "GEGEN NACHBILDUNG / GESCHUTZ." marks to base, additional impressed and hand-brushed numerals. Late 19th/early 20th century. 22 1/8" HOA.
