GERMAN METTLACH ST. AUGUSTINE CERAMIC STEIN, mold number 2373, having etched sides with polychrome hand-painted decorations featuring gilt-accented "SPANISH COAT OF ARMS" flanked by the "OLD CITY GATE" and "FORT MARION", ceramic inset metal lid featuring floral motif, and figural ceramic alligator handle, 1/2 liter size. Impressed abbey with "METTLACH / VB" and "GEGEN NACHBILDUNG / GESCHUTZ." marks to base, additional impressed numerals, and green-stamped "VILLEROY & BOCH" and "Made / in / Germany". Late 19th/early 20th century. 8 1/2" HOA.
