HARRISON FAMILY, ROCKINGHAM / SHENANDOAH CO., SHENANDOAH VALLEY OF VIRGINIA OVERSHOT COVERLET, navy blue wool and natural cotton, two joined panels, having all-over pattern with alternating bars of straight lines and diagonal lines, attached card written by Joan Byrd. Second half 19th century. 71" x 75 1/2".
Provenance: From the John H. and Joan S. Byrd estate collection, Harrisonburg, VA.
Descended in the Harrison/Byrd family.
Fair to very good overall condition with some toning notably to top and bottom edges, top fourth folded over 8 1/2" and stitched causing the coverlet to be shortened, top also having tears and losses to wool, a significant loss to one panel at top center, remainder of the piece with minor losses to wool, some areas of light fading.
