JAMES RIVER / PETERSBURG, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, designated two-gallon capacity, ovoid form with rounded rim, applied arched handles. Brushed cobalt three-petal, double-bloom flower with leaves to each side, "2" brushed to underside of one handle, additional cobalt to handle terminals. Possibly Henry Lowndes or Thomas and John Ducey, Petersburg, VA. Circa 1850. 12 5/8" H, 7" D rim.
Very good condition except lower half having some exterior only hairlines and staining.
