JAMES RIVER, POSSIBLY BENJAMIN DUVAL POTTERY, VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, designated four-gallon capacity, ovoid form with flat-top rim, slightly elongated neck, and nearly straight tab-like handles. Brushed cobalt "4" framed by round brackets to each side, additional cobalt to handle terminals. Possibly Benjamin DuVal Pottery or Samuel Wilson and/or associates, Richmond or Henrico Co., VA. 1811-1840. 14 1/2" H, 7 1/2" D rim.
