OHIO SIGNED AND DATED JACQUARD COVERLETS, LOT OF TWO, comprising one whole panel, dark blue wool and natural cotton, center having repeated floral and star motifs, two sides with borders of buildings and palm trees, lower edge border featuring birds, trees, and roses, fringe on three sides, both lower corners signed "DANIEL / BURY. / CORNERS / BOURG / OHIO. 1848"; and the other of one panel, dark blue, deep red, and tan wool, and natural cotton, center having repeated tulip and star pattern, border along side and bottom featuring birds, trees, and roses, applied fringe to side and bottom edge, corner block signed "WOVE BY / WILLIAM / HAMMAN / IN AUSTIN / TOWNSHIP / TRUMBULL / COUNTY / OHIO / 1844". Daniel Bury, Cornersburg (Cornersbourg), OH; and William Hamman, Austin Township, Trumbull Co., OH. Dated 1844 and 1848. Bury coverlet 71" x 79" with fringe; Hamman panel 36 x 89" with fringe.
Provenance: Property from a Youngstown, OH estate.

Condition

Bury coverlet in fair to good overall condition with toning, scattered holes and stains, top edge of significant wear and tears having later-added binding fabric, lower edge with later stitching, some losses to fringe; Hamman panel in excellent overall condition with light toning, possibly separated from or never attached to other panel.
