STAMPED NEW HAMPSHIRE / VERMONT DECORATED STONEWARE JUGS, LOT OF TWO, salt-glazed, each of beehive form with applied strap handle, Albany-slip glazed interior, comprising a stamped "O.L. & A.K. BALLARD. / BURLINGTON, VT.", "2" gallon capacity mark example featuring brushed cobalt floral design with additional cobalt across stamp and a stamped "J.S.TAFT, & COMPANY / KEENE N.H." approximately one-gallon capacity example with slip-trailed cobalt flower design. Orin and Alfred Ballard, Burlington; James Scolley Taft, Keene, NH. Second half 19th century. 10 5/8" and 13 5/8" HOA. 

Condition

Each mostly undamaged, Ballard example having a glaze flake to interior of mouth and some staining to body; Taft example having a minor shallow chip to base edge. Manufacturing flaws including stone pops and kiln kisses, as made.
