VIRGINIA / MARYLAND PAINTED-DECORATED YELLOW PINE BLANKET CHEST, with white oak and walnut, the two-board rectangular lid over a dovetailed case, interior with lidded till, above a band of applied waist molding, over two thumb-molded drawers flanked by unusual recessed panels, the whole raised on an applied cut-out bracket-foot base. Walnut secondary wood. Retaining likely original wrought-iron strap hinges and grab lock. Surface cleaned down to likely original geometric design featuring compass-drawn overlapping circles and six-petal rosettes / pinwheels. Fourth quarter 18th century. 30" H, 51 1/2" W, 26" D.

Good overall condition with moderate wear, heavier to lid. Feet likely old, possibly late 19th-century, replacements. Surface cleaned down to likely original paint, with associated discoloration.
