WEST VIRGINIA MERCHANT'S STENCILED STONEWARE JUG, salt-glazed, approximately half-gallon capacity, semi-ovoid form with plain mouth, beaded neck ring, and strap handle, Albany-slip glazed interior. Stenciled cobalt "ISAAC COTTS / 1047 / MARKET / SQUARE. / WHEELING / W.VA". Circa 1870. 9 3/4" HOA.

Catalogue Note: Isaac Cotts (1806-1879) was listed as a "merchant" in the 1860 United States census and as a grocer 10 years later. He died in 1879 and is buried in Mt. Wood Cemetery.
